Matthew Santoro was born on July 16, 1985, in New York City. Santoro was raised in Welland, Ontario, before moving to St. Catharines and settling in Toronto in May 2015.

Matthew spoke about his unnamed violent ex-girlfriend in the video, who punched him in the face. He described how the individual had cut him off from his friends and family, making him feel useless. The video went viral as soon as it was made public.

Many followers and viewers sided with him and applauded him for sharing such a personal tale. Soon after, his ex, Nicole, quickly followed up with a video addressing the situation. She said Matthew’s statement was false, and there was never any domestic violence.
