On November 20, 1975, Davey Havok was born David Paden Passaro in Rochester, New York. His father died when he was five years old, and he and his mother relocated from Rochester to Sacramento, California, to be closer to family. Havok’s mother remarried, and he took his stepfather’s surname.
The artist attended Catholic school until the eighth grade. In the late 1980s, the family relocated to Ukiah, California, where he graduated from Ukiah High School in 1993. Following high school, Havok attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he double-majored in English and Psychology. After his sophomore year, Havok’s career with AFI took off, and he did not return to university.
