Known as the Little Rock Nine, the whole group won the Congressional Gold Medal by President Bill Clinton.
LaNier continued to work hard and found herself inducted into the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame in 2004 and the National Women’s Hall of Fame in 2015. It was her homeschool teacher who presented her the idea to join the Central High School, and it was a decision she never regrets. Unfortunately, their first attempt to enter the segregated school failed as 400 angry mobs prevented them from it. However, just a day later, President Dwight D. Eisenhower took charge and sent soldiers to accompany Carlotta and her group to the school.

Little Rock Nine didn’t find it easy initially as the White students did torment them. Not just that, Carlotta Walls LaNier suffered a tragedy when some people bombed her house on February 9, 1960, with two sticks of dynamite. The group went on to bag other awards like Spingarn Medal and went on to do good deeds for the society with the Little Rock Nine Foundation. In fact, it was LaNier who led the project in the past as the president.

After completing her academics, Carlotta Walls LaNier moved to Colorado and founded a real estate brokerage company called LaNier and Company. Furthermore, she is a member of Metrolist, Inc and is a member of the Colorado Aids Project and The Urban League.

Born on December 18, 1942, in Little Rock Arkansas, Carlotta Walls LaNier was born to brick mason cum World War II veteran Cartelyou Walls and mother, Juanita Walls. She lost her dad in 1976 after suffering from leukemia. As per her siblings, she was the eldest of three girls.
When it comes to education, she attended a segregated school of Dunbar Junior High School before volunteering to attend Central High School. Following that stage, she went to Colorado State College and Michigan State University for further studies.

Talking about her personal life, she tied the knot with Ira (Ike) LaNier in 1968 and is blissfully together till the current date. Shortly after their marriage, she had two children, Whitney and Brooke. Since her kids are adults now, Carlotta is a grand-mother now with two grandchildren. The 77-year-old currently lives in a lavish house at Englewood, Colorado.
