Over the years, Yandy Smith’s husband, Mendeecees Harris, has been embroiled in various disputes. He was charged in 2013 with sexually assaulting a juvenile girl while she was only 15 years old in 2009. He was arrested, but after a lengthy trial, he was found not guilty of the allegations. Unfortunately, his legal problems did not end there. Between 2005 and 2012, Harris was accused of trafficking cocaine and heroin worth $2.5 million. He was convicted of narcotics trafficking and sentenced to eight years in jail on December 1, 2015.

On January 19, 2016, Mendeecees surrendered to FCI Allenwood Federal Prison in Pennsylvania. He had previously served 15 months in prison before being released on bail, so he still had nearly seven years to serve. However, he continued his legal battle from behind bars in an attempt to minimize his sentence, claiming that he was only a minor player in drug trafficking.

The reality TV star’s counsel also claimed that, before the announcement of his sentence, he completed community service up to four times a week, visiting youth organizations to prevent teenagers from committing crimes. In addition, while awaiting his sentencing, he handed up the $170,000 he earned from starring on the reality television show and from public engagements.
