The 71-year-old made his first record with then-girlfriend Stevie Nicks in 1972. After three years, Mick Fleetwood came across their music, and they both got hired in the Fleetwood Mac without any audition. The newly formed group was an instant hit after they produced number 1 eponymously titled debut album in 1975. It was followed by other albums like Rumours, Tusk, Tango in the Night, and many more.

However, besides working in the band, Buckingham also heavily focused on his solo career and released solo album Law and Order in 1981, which had a guest appearance from his bandmates like Mick Fleetwood and Christine McVie. As for the later days in the band, he stayed with the band from 1975 to 1987 and then rejoined again in 1997. Sadly in 2018, he was unceremoniously fired and replaced by guitarist Rick Vito and Billy Burnette.

However, right at the time of their break, the singer was in a relationship with Fleetwood Mac’s official photographer Kristen Messner. The couple introduced their firstborn child William Gregory Buckingham on July 08, 1998, and married each other in 2000.
