JoJo Siwa Was Not Invited to 2022 Kids Choice Awards Despite a Nomination
On Saturday, April 9, 2022 Kids Choice Awards was held in Santa Monica, California. YouTuber JoJo Siwa, was nominated for favorite social music star but she did not appear in the program which surprised many. Later, that night, the former Dancing with the star contestant took to her Instagram and revealed her reason for absence from the event.
JoJo said in a video, “A lot of you have been asking me why I’m not at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards tonight and the answer is very simple: I wasn’t invited,” “I’m not sure why, but I just didn’t get an invite.”
Many believe that Siwa’s public dispute with Nickelodeon last fall may be one of the reasons for her not inviting. In September 2021, Siwa who is the younger sister of vlogger Jayden Siwa expressed her displeasure with Nickelodeon’s show JoJo Siwa D.R.E.A.M. The Tour. She tweeted that her film musical [The J Team] had just been released, with six new original songs and Nickelodeon told her today that she’s not allowed to perform/add any of the songs from the film into her show.
“These are MY songs, MY voice, MY writing. Does this seem fair???” She added, “There is no reason that this music should not be included. Working for a company as a real human being treated as only a brand is fun until it’s not.”
Siwa did not win any awards at the show. She lost to Dixie D’Amelio in her nominated category. Previously, the queer YouTuber was a regular guest of the show. She attended the annual program in person in 2019. She appeared virtually at the 2020 and 2021 shows.
