Jean Currivan reported to People’s magazine that she and Alex remained just friends after meeting age differences. Jean was over 20 years younger than Alex. But the blue-grey-eyed knew there’s something that just kept drawing to him.

Past Affair, Divorce

The former Jeopardy host was previously married to broadcaster Elaine Callei in 1974. Alex had no children with Elaine until he married Jean. Later on, Trebek adopted Callei’s daughter Nicky Trebek. But unfortunately, things turned sour between the two; Alex divorced Elaine in 1981.

Matthew has established his own Mexican restaurant in Oso, Harlem, New York, with business partner Nodar Moshiashvili. He and Nodar host a weekly soup kitchen show called Lucille’s Family Meal.

Alex Trebek died on November 8, 2020, at age 80, at his home, due to stage 4 pancreatic cancer complications. During the funeral, Alex’s remains were cremated and given to his beloved wife.

On March 6, 2019, Trebek announced he had been diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. He struggled with a persistent stomach ache before the diagnosis but could not recognize it as a disease symptom.

On October 4, 2019, in an interview with CTV’s chief anchor Lisa LaFlamme, Alex said he’s nearing the end of that life, and he’s not afraid of dying. During interviews with ABC News, Trebek stated he began looking at experimental treatments and chemotherapies despite severe pain and depression.

Three days later, his wife Jean Trebek shared a sweet photo from their wedding and a message for his many fans. She wrote on her Instagram caption, “My family and U sincerely thank you all for your compassionate messages and generosity.”

Alex Trebek was worth $75 million before his death. He was a philanthropist and activist involved in multiple charities, including World Visions Canada and United Service Organization. For World Vision projects, he traveled to many developing countries.

Alex donated 74 acres to open land in the Hollywood Hills to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy in 1998. He was later honored as one of the American Foundation for the Blind’s six yearly Access Awards for Jeopardy’s role.

Alex Trebek was raised Catholic during his childhood and adolescence. He was born in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, on July 22, 1940. Alex was the son of George Edward Trebek and Lucille Marie Lagace. He grew up in a bilingual French-English household.

Alex landed his first job at age 13; he was a bellhop at the hotel where his father worked as a chef. Trebek attended Sudbury High School and graduated from the University of Ottawa with a degree in 1961.
