Pierce Brosnan is a 69-year-old Irish actor and movie producer. And, most recently, he appeared as Doctor Fate in the upcoming DC Universe film Black Adam. Former James Bond actor claims that he was passed over for the role of Batman in favor of Michael Keaton because of a silly comment about the character’s costume.

Brosnan said in a recent interview that he nearly got a more significant part in the DC Universe as Tim Burton‘s Batman. However, the actor was not cast because he criticized Batman’s customs.

During his appearance on the American late-night talk show The Tonight Show on Tuesday, he revealed that Brosnan had tried out for the role of Batman in the 1989 film adaptation of the comic book character. The actor also said that his honest words to the film’s director, Tim Burton, were the main reason he did not get the part.

The GoldenEye actor admitted that he had criticized Batman’s costume in front of Burton. According to Brosnan, he auditioned for the role of Batman back when Tim Burton directed the series. Unfortunately, I failed to secure work there.

“I made the mistake of saying to Tim Burton, “I can’t understand anyone who wears his underpants outside of his trousers,” “which I now realize was a completely idiotic statement.” Burton said, “But there you go… the best man got the job.”

Burton settled on Michael Keaton when casting the masked crusader role. Four years later, in the sequel Batman Returns, Keaton returned to the position of Batman.

During a later segment of his interview with Jimmy Fallon, Brosnan made a joke about the superhero costume worn by his character in “Black Adam.” There is no way to see Doctor Fate’s face because of the golden helmet he wears.

Brosnan has appeared in a wide variety of films, including Mamma Mia!, The World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day, The Foreigner, and many others.
