Ashley Jones attended her first Teen Mom 2 reunion on Tuesday night, which aired the second episode. Jones talked about how she felt when it announced that she would be joining the cast earlier this year during the reunion. According to the reality star, she received a lot of flak when she was first named Chelsea Houska‘s successor.

Jones mentioned earlier in the season that she is the only Black mother in the Teen Mom 2 ensemble. This was a topic Jones addressed earlier in the season, as previously stated. Jones and her fiancé, Bar Smith, in an episode that aired in early July, detailed how they had been experiencing more racism since they decided to speak out in support of the Black Live Matter movement.

Following the murder of George Floyd by former police officer Derek Chauvin, Jones and Smith began to receive more racist comments. Jones’ mother and stepfather later discussed the situation with them, and she said, “I feel like because I’m the only Black parent on a predominately white show.” She added, “I don’t have an option except to work hard, obtain an education, earn straight A’s, and provide all my daughter desires. I don’t have any wiggle room.
