Ree Drummond went on a “martial vacation.” Her romantic vacation had to be canceled because of her husband Ladd Drummond‘s tragic accident. She documented her journey to Colorado with Ladd by posting a series of photos and videos to Instagram.

The 52-year-old wrote, “Last time Ladd and I tried to go to Colorado together, there was this really bad accident involving a fire truck (Confused emoji) and we didn’t make it.” with a selfie of the married pair smiling on vacation. She added, “So my answer to the question ‘How happy are you to be in Colorado with your husband right now?’ would most definitely be this: Happy.”

The TV personality continued, “So very, very, extremely, through-the-roof, over the moon happy. (Until he makes me hike up the Berry Picker trail with him later this week, then I will leave his butt on the mountain and drive back to Oklahoma by myself.).” with a heart emoji.

On Monday, Ree continued to capture the trip with a photo of herself chewing into a turkey leg and a video of her and Ladd grinning as they ran up a flight of stairs. The Pioneer Woman star commented on her well-deserved vacation in a blog post published on Sunday.

“We tried in March to make this same trip.” Ree continued after expressing her excitement for the couple’s trip, “I had already started packing, I was so excited about it. And okay, I hadn’t just started packing…I was pretty much packed and not quite waiting by the door since the trip was still two days away, but psychologically I was definitely waiting by the door.” She added, “But then Ladd was in a terrible accident and we obviously weren’t able to go.” 

While extinguishing a grass fire on their family’s Oklahoma ranch in March, Ladd and her nephew, Caleb, were engaged in an accident. The 21-year-old Caleb was thrown 70 feet from his rescue vehicle after colliding with another fire truck. Ree’s husband fractured his neck in the horrible truck crash. Caleb received injuries to his head, internal thorax, arm, and leg.

“Missing our vacation was certainly at the bottom of our list of concerns at the time since Ladd was in the hospital recovering from his emergency neck surgery…,” she continued in the blog post. She also said, “but as he started healing and getting better, we had to chuckle that the accident had happened right before our trip because something had seemed to interrupt our being able to take three previously planned Colorado trips together.“

Drummond wrote, “We might have just given up on trying, but I’m stubborn and so is he, so we decided to make plans one last time and see if we were able to make it happen.”

“I know we’re only a few hours in, but we really are having a whale of a time so far.” Ree wrote, adding that she and Ladd were enjoying the vacation. “We kinda miss having all the kids here, but we’re also enjoying our first non-work related trip alone together since… Since… Since I can’t remember! So Drummond kids, take care of one another, don’t forget your mom and dad.” 

Alex, 24, Paige, 21, Bryce, 18, Jamar, 18, and Todd, 17, are the couple’s four children and one foster child. Ree Drummond enjoys a staggering net worth profile with her kids and husband.
