Meghan Markle Pays Tribute to the Victims of a School Shooting in Texas

Meghan Markle laid flowers outside a memorial site near the Texas school shooting site to honor the victims. On Thursday, the Duchess of Sussex accompanied her personal security to the memorial site at the Uvalde County Courthouse, not far from where Salvador Ramos, 18, murdered 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School.

Ms. Markle, dressed in trousers, a white shirt, and a baseball cap, left the flowers tied with a purple ribbon as other mourners paid their respects. She then stood with her arms folded, gazing at the victims’ monument. Ms. Markle approached a cross dedicated to Uziyah Garcia, an eight-year-old boy who was the youngest victim of the assault and laid flowers on it with her head bent.

The visit was unscheduled, and mourners and bystanders were taken aback. “I didn’t know who she was.” “She was simply talking to me like she and I had known each other for years,” volunteer Gloria Contreras, 40, told BuzzFeed, which first reported Markle’s visit to the Herby Ham Activity Center as part of her Uvalde tour.

“We were simply chatting about the scenario and what occurred and what we were doing here,” says the narrator. “I informed her about how we were handing out water and feeding the people,” Ms. Contreras added. “I even talked about my personal life with her, telling her about my kid and my family and, you know, going to Texas because she said she was from Santa Barbara, and I told her, “Well, you need to come to Texas!“,” Ms Contreras continued.

“We were talking about Texas and Uvalde, and how nice it is to live in a little town, and how everyone is so nice and warm-hearted, and how we all know each other and things, and how deeply embedded the faith is.” The duchess left two “huge” bags stocked with sandwiches, beverages, and sweets for blood donors.

The Duchess of Sussex, her husband, Prince Harry, and their two children live in California. On Feb 28, 2022, the duo was awarded at NAACP Image Awards. According to her spokesman, she traveled to Texas as a mother to express her condolences and support in-person to “people enduring terrible pain.”According to reports, she also visited a Uvalde community center conducting a blood drive, where she inspected the building and gave food.

The White House announced on Thursday that President Joe Biden would travel to Uvalde on Sunday. According to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, they will meet with community leaders and victims’ relatives. Prince Harry and Markle will join the Queen at St Paul’s Thanksgiving service.

“Jill and I will be traveling to Texas in the coming days to meet with the families and let them know we understand their pain and hopefully bring some small measure of comfort to a community in shock, grief, and trauma,” Mr. Biden said at a signing event for an executive order on police reform at the White House.
