Initially, Nixon faced discouragement from her publicist regarding making her relationship with Marinoni public. “He insisted it’s your personal life and should stay private,” Nixon explained to The Advocate. “We kept asking if that’s all, but we couldn’t move past that.”

“We’d be at the playground with the kids, getting photographed, and we’d say, ‘No, she’s just a friend?'” Nixon recounted.
