After reading the Washington Post piece, a Los Angeles agent discovered Wardell, and he joined his team in mid-2013. Wardell agreed to the conditions, dropped out of VCU, and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a stand-up comedian.
Wardell’s work caught the attention of Bob Odenkirk when he featured on multiple podcasts, and he put Wardell on his late-2014 live comedy CD, Amateur Hour, where he performs on the first four songs. While the album was well-received, Wardell’s performance was panned, with many fans and reviewers criticizing Wardell’s inclusion on the record.
