In 1993, she founded a hedge fund specializing in telecommunications and technology firms, and in 1995, she joined Winstar Communications, Inc.’s founding management team as Executive Vice President of Strategic Planning. Ms. Newmark began her career in the commercial sector as a college senior, writing a magazine on telecom equipment sales prospects in Brazil. She went on to work as a consultant for the sector, eventually landing a job at the Gartner Group, where she published many telecoms books and oversaw the telecommunications services business.

In 1981, she relocated to Wall Street. She spent several years writing and lecturing on telecommunications and information services and offering mutual fund and hedge fund clients her stock picks and pans.
