In 1958, Andrea Bocelli was born in Lajatico, Italy. He celebrates his birthday on September 22. Following tests, doctors advised his mother to abort him as a baby because there was a good chance he would be born with a disability.
Bocelli’s mother ignored the advice, and he was born with congenital glaucoma, a condition that would severely impair his vision. Later, at the age of 12, because of an accident at a football match, he completely lost his sight and became blind.

The artist had a fascination with music by the age of six, as it was one of the few things that brought him joy. Bocelli began playing the piano at a young age and learned the flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, and drums.

From 1994 to 1997, Bocelli worked with various other singers and released several albums. Many of these songs did extremely well worldwide, particularly “Time to Say Goodbye,” which went six times platinum. In 1997, he was introduced to American audiences for the first time when PBS aired one of his concerts in Germany.
