Katy Perry Teased Her Appearance to ‘SNL’ With Trippy Performance
Katy Perry is no stranger to Saturday Night Live, and she returned on January 29 to perform some new music in support of Willem Dafoe as host. Perry was a musical guest in 2010, 2013, and 2017, and she also hosted the show in 2011. On Friday, Perry teased her appearance on S.N.L. on Instagram, wearing a slinky black jumpsuit with the caption “hold on to ur W.I.G., [S.N.L.].”
The singer brought her signature cartoon style and high energy to her first performance of “When I’m Gone,” her latest single with Alesso. Perry, dressed in red spandex and flanked by dancers dressed as mushrooms, commanded the stage for the mushroom-themed number. Her theatrics and choreography were flawless, but not at the expense of her signature pipes.
Perry has a highly successful Las Vegas residency called Play, and 2022 is shaping up to be a big year for her. The show was originally scheduled to run from December 29, 2021, to March 19, 2022, but high ticket demand resulted in 16 summer dates.

Perry, who has one daughter, Daisy, with fiance Orlando Bloom, revealed what it’s like for her to prepare for a concert in a recent interview. “Well, people think backstage is pretty scandalous, but for me, it’s pretty much been the same for a decade,” she told PEOPLE.
“We’re just getting ready; we’re eating well and working out before the show. We’re doing a variety of business activities while also focusing on meditation. So what I do, and have done for over a decade, has helped me a lot with fatigue and exhaustion.” She also said, “Especially getting through these shows, because I believe this is the most physically demanding show I’ve ever done.”
