The single was a huge success, and it introduced the band to many top music producers, including Rick Rubin and Def Jam Records. However, Rubin only wanted to sign Chuck as a solo artist because he didn’t realize the significance of Flav, but thanks to Chuck’s persistence, the duo was both signed.

The group released their first album on Def Jam Records in 1987. The album was named Yo, Bum Rush the Show, and it showed the group’s chemistry. Chuck was a serious rapper, while Fav was amusing to the rest of the gang. The group’s major hit album was released in 1988.

Along with the band’s success, Flavor Flav achieved solo success in 1990 with the release of his single “911 is a Joke.” His other solo hit came in 1999 when he collaborated with DJ Temekk, and Grandmaster Flash on “1 2 3 Rhymes Galore.”

However, Flav did not release a solo song until 2006, named Flavor Flav. There was no new information about Fav and Public Enemy’s music, but in March 2020, the band formally announced that they’ve split up.

Flavor Flav’s Wife and Children

Aged 63, Flavor Flav has been known in the media for his relationship since 1986. He married his first wife, Karen Ross, in 1986 but divorced after admitting to abusing her. He was also stripped of custody of his three children. They ended up divorcing in 1991, and three years later, he married Angie Parker, with whom he again had three children. He dated actress Beverly Johnson in 1998, but they split up when Flav went to prison in 2001.

The reality TV star met his current wife, Liz Trujillo, in 2003 but did not marry her until 2008. They married three years later and have been living together ever since. They have a son who goes by the name Karma. Flav once dated Brigette Nelson after meeting her on the set of The Surreal, but they split up soon after.

Flavor Flav’s Early Life

Flavor Flav was born on March 16, 1959, in Roosevelt, New York, as William Jonathan Drayton, Jr. He grew up in Freeport, New York, with his mother, Anna, and father, William (a restaurant owner), as well as his brother Steven and sister Jean. He began playing piano at the age of five after self-teaching himself, and he also played guitar and drums as a child.

The Rapper attended Freeport High School until the 11th grade when he dropped out. He then enrolled in a culinary school and later at Adelphi University in Long Island, New York.
