Kelly Ripa Shares About Her Relationship with Regis Philbin!
Kelly Ripa, with the full name Kelly Maria Ripa, is a multi-talented American actress, dancer, talk show host, and television producer. Recently, Kelly has been discussing her early days on Live! and her friendship with former co-host Regis Philbin.
Fifty-one years old, Kelly and her ex-Live co-host Regis Philbin were very close, but like any other intimate relationship, they had their ups and downs.
According to the sources, the TV anchor says the chapter about Philbin was “the hardest chapter to write” in her new book, Live Wire: Protracted Tales.
“There were good and awful days” on Live! With Regis and Kelly, she admits. “I don’t want to slam or disrespect anyone. I want them to know it wasn’t easy. It took me years to earn my place there and the things my coworkers had. My own office and computer space.”
The former co-host of Regis and Kelly, now a Live with Kelly and Ryan co-host, reflects on her difficult transition to the daytime talk program after Kathie Lee Gifford replaced Regis Philbin in 2001.
“People think it was easy,” says Ripa. “People sometimes think I just walked in, got a job, and everything was perfect. But that’s never the case.”
Finally, after Ripa had served as a guest co-host three times and had been assured repeatedly that the show was not seeking a permanent co-host, her agency called her with an offer. As a word of caution, it read, “They want you to know who your boss is.”
Kelly describes the experience as “extremely foreboding” and “not feeling nice.” Her agent indicated the show didn’t want an entourage. Two people came. “Hair and cosmetics,” she says. “It wasn’t unusual for TV program participants to have.”
Yet, just before she entered the stage, Philbin said, “Uh-oh, Gelman, it’s got an entourage.” It was directed by the show’s executive producer, Michael Gelman.
She felt awful. “He was probably kidding, but it felt like a pile-on. I know he didn’t want a co-host, but the network wanted me, and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. He wasn’t treated fairly. I wasn’t fair either.”
After a long and productive life, Philbin passed away in 2020 at 88. “Off-camera and outside the building, it was different. “I loved our few meetings. We vacationed at the same resort, and Philbin attended one of my favorite dinners. I’ve never laughed harder.”
Philbin informed Larry King in 2017 that he had not spoken to Ripa since leaving the morning talk show but had received an invitation to return.
Ripa adds, “The show had sought out several times,” citing his appearance on the 2015 Halloween episode as evidence. “It’s discouraging, but I can’t pinpoint why. I persisted in my efforts to make myself understood. And you can’t force someone to become your good friend.”
Although they have a past together, Ripa still considers Philbin “the world’s best storyteller” and gives him credit for showing her the way.
She says, “If I were a tenth as good, I’d be happy.” It’s taking the audience on a rollercoaster and remembering that you’re the punchline. Kelly continues by saying, “I adored him, and I still love him.”And also, Kelly Ripa has millions of net worth, which she has collected throughout her career.
