According to Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group CEO Ivan Reitman, a famous producer and filmmaker behind some of Hollywood’s biggest comedies, have died. He was 75 years old at the time.

The filmmaker produced and directed some of the most enduring comedy films of the 1980s and 1990s, including 1984’s “Ghostbusters.” The film was a box office smash and started a decades-long franchise, culminating in last year’s “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” directed by his son Jason Reitman.

Reitman died in his sleep on Saturday at his home in Montecito, Calif., his family said.

According to The Associated Press, Reitman’s children Jason, Catherine, and Caroline said, “Our family is grieving the untimely loss of a husband, father, and grandfather who taught us to always seek the magic in life.” According to his family, Reitman died in his sleep at his home in Montecito, Calif., on Saturday.

Reitman didn’t win any of Hollywood’s most prestigious accolades during his long and successful career, which is a frequent destiny for comedians. On the other hand, his films were hugely popular, and they gave well-known performers like John Belushi and Bill Murray famous roles.

On Monday Reitman’s son Jason — himself a director of films such as “Juno” and “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” — tweeted: “I’ve lost my hero.”

Furthermore, his children said, “We take consolation in the fact that his work as a filmmaker provided joy and happiness to countless others throughout the world.” “While we grieve individually, we hope that those who knew him via his films will never forget him.”

In 1946, Reitman was born in Czechoslovakia. He was raised in Canada, where his family fled communist tyranny. While an undergraduate at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, he began directing and producing short films. Eugene Levy, a comedian, was one of his coworkers.
