Aaron Rodgers Attends a Wedding with ex-fiancee Shailene Woodley
Aaron Rodgers and Shailene Woodley are no longer in the picture. A source familiar with Rodgers confirms to PEOPLE that the NFL star, 38, and the actress, 30, divorced just over a year after announcing their interaction.
“It was a mutual decision; was just not working,” the source says. “They’re very different people with demanding careers, and there were obstacles they couldn’t overcome. They’ll stay friendly; there won’t be any bad blood or drama. It just didn’t work out for them.”
Woodley’s representative has not responded. Rodgers’ representative declined to comment. InTouch first reported the news.
Their breakup comes after Rodgers faced backlash over his vaccination status in November 2021, when it was disclosed that he screened positive for the coronavirus. In August of last year, when asked if he had received the COVID-19 vaccine in preparation for the 2021 season, he told the press that he was “fully vaccinated.”

Rodgers, however, confirmed that he was unvaccinated during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on November 5. Woodley slammed “disparaging” claims about Rodgers the same month.
Woodley officially confirmed their engagement on Jimmy Fallon‘s The Tonight Show in late February 2021, joking that she never considered she’d grow up to marry somebody who “needs to throw balls for a living.”
The Green Bay Packers quarterback then boasted about his enjoyment with Woodley in March of that year. “I got engaged recently, so that’s been a fun part of my life,” he explained at the time. “That is the most wonderful thing that’s happened to me in the last year.”
They were seen for the first time since the news of their engagement broke in late March, going out to dinner with friends in Arkansas. Soon after, Rodgers and Woodley were spotted at Walt Disney World on their most PDA-filled outing as a couple.

Many were surprised to learn of their romance, as Rodgers and Woodley’s low-key relationship grew more assertive in their quarantine bubble during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, as the world became more open and his NFL season tried to approach, the two became less visible together.
“There is no wedding planning going on. There’s no need to rush. We’re not in a rush,” She stated in a July 2021 interview with Entertainment Tonight. Rodgers told Haute Living in September 2021 that they were focusing on work separately.
“It’s a hectic period at work for her, so [my decision] came at an ideal time for both of us to focus solely on our work. I believe it will be beneficial ” He told the news outlet. “I mean, her job was shut down for an entire year, and she had a number of projects lined up. She appreciates her work and her own routine, as do I.”
Earlier this year, a source told PEOPLE that the couple frequently “agreed to disagree” on issues where they didn’t agree. “They’re not talking about their politics, and they never have,” a source said. “They couldn’t agree on a lot of things. They decided early on to agree to disagree rather than debate certain issues.”
