Ali Wong & Justin Hakuta are divorcing after 8 years of Marriage

After eight years of marriage, Ali Wong and her husband, Justin Hakuta, are splitting. On Wednesday afternoon, a spokeswoman for the “Always Be My Maybe” actress, 39, confirmed the news.

Wong and her now estranged husband Hakuta married on November 27, 2014, in San Francisco. The couple first met in 2010 at a friend’s wedding reception. The couple quickly hit off and started dating soon.

Wong and Hakuta share two daughters. The couple’s first child Mari Hakuta was born in 2015. Similarly, the pair welcomed their second kid Nikki Hakuta in 2017. It is revealed that the comedian and Hakuta will co-parent their kids after separation.

Wong has made jokes about marriage in her stand-up performances over the years, most notably in her Netflix special, “Don Wong,” which was released in February. The 39-year-old comedian mentioned in the show that Hakuta, an entrepreneur who graduated from Harvard Business School, preferred to stay with her before she became successful.

“He was smart enough to choose me, to invest in me when I was 20 pounds heavier, had chronic acne and no money,” said Wong. “He bought low, and if we get divorced, he gonna sell high.” 

Ali went on to call her marriage to Hakuta “healthy,” owing to his ability to balance her wants. “You put me in my place, and then you give me permission to be myself. And then you tell me what to do. And then you celebrate me,” Wong said. “And that, single people, is what healthy marriage looks like.” 

The reason for the separation between Wong and Hakuta is not known. Also, it is mentioned that the couple is separating on amicable terms. Furthermore, it is revealed that the Harvard graduate and Always Be My Maybe star signed a prenup. Hence, it seems like their divorce will be finalized without any conflicts.
